According to foreign media reports, an international research scientist composed of physicists and neuroscientists made a major breakthrough in the field of MRI research, making the brain scanning speed up to seven times higher than the current level. The research paper was published on the December 20th Public Library of Psychology (PLoS ONE). In the paper, a physicist at the University of California at Berkeley and colleagues from the University of Minnesota and Oxford described technical improvements that allowed full-motion 3D brain scans to be completed in less than half a second, rather than the usual 2 Up to 3 seconds. For neuroscience, fast scanning is especially critical, and it captures dynamic behavior within the brain. “When using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study the brain, it takes about 30 to 60 images to be repeated hundreds of times to complete, like the myriad of frames that make up a movie,†said Feinberg. Functional MRI is a 3D movie that uses multiple multiplexes to capture images at higher speeds, and a high-frequency frame can get more information in a short amount of time." Dr. Marc Raichle, a professor of radiology, neurology, neurobiology, bioengineering and psychology at the University of Washington in St. Louis, added: "The brain is an active target, so the more accurate the sampling of this active target is.
